H&V Building Services was appointed by the London Fire Brigade to undertake the complete roof replacement to four roofs at Wennington Fire Station whilst the station remained fully operational throughout the duration of the project.
The Project had to be carefully planned with close liaison with each station watch to ensure uninterrupted operation of the station, particularly when reacting to an emergency call out. In addition to the roof works being carried out, a full temporary scaffold roof had to be erected to provide weather protection during the winter months which was when these works were carried out.
The project was carried out within budget and generally within programme with satisfied client and station.
The works included:
- Replacement of existing roof coverings including the upgrade of existing insulation with a tapered scheme.
- Raising the perimeter parapets inclusive of new pre-formed powder coated capping’s.
- Alterations and adaptions of existing CAT ladder.
- Replacement of tank room cladding and tank room door.
- Installation of new guardrail system.
- Installation of aluminium rainwater goods.
- Installation of roof level fire alarm sounders and emergency lighting.
- Renewal of lightning conductor throughout.
- In addition to the above works, various mechanical kit had to be temporary isolated after being validated and set aside for re-use, including the main commercial kitchen extract fan. The existing feed and expansion tank to the tank room was also removed. We also replaced the main HRU to the gymnasium.
