H&V Building Services was appointed by the London Fire Brigade to undertake the complete roof replacement to six roofs including renewing composite fire rated cladding to both the upper level tank room and to the complete 2nd floor structure whilst the station remained fully operational throughout the project.
The project had to be carefully planned with close liaison with each station watch to ensure uninterrupted operation of the station, particularly when reacting to emergency call outs. Close liaison also had to be carried out when constructing the access scaffold around the station and in particular, to the appliance bay points of access and egress onto the public highway.
The project was successfully carried out both within budget and programme with a satisfied client and station.
The main contract works included:
• Replacement of existing roof coverings, including the upgrade of existing insulation with a tapered insulation scheme.
• Raising the perimeter parapets including of new preformed powder coated capping’s.
• Alterations and adaptions to existing CAT ladders inclusive of a new handrail system throughout.
• Renewal of external cladding replacing the existing with a garland R-Mer composite panel.
• Removal and re-instatement of various electrical services including PV panels, satellite dishes, control cablings and the like.
• Extension of existing fire alarm system to incorporate additional fire alarm sounders and beacons.
• Renewal of lightning conductor throughout.
• In addition to the electrical works, various mechanical works were carried out including upfront validations, removal and reinstatement of extract fans / ductworks, removal and reinstatement of boiler flues, together wit re-routing roof mounted gas supplies and renewal of appliance bay gas heaters.
