Works Description
H&V Building Services was appointed by the London Fire Brigade to undertake the complete roof replacement to eight roofs including replacement of all rooflights & a partial electrical rewire to upper floor all whilst the station remained fully occupied and operational throughout the duration of the project.
The project was carefully planned with close liaison with each station watch to ensure uninterrupted operation of the station, particularly when reacting to emergency call outs. Close liaison also had to be carried out when constructing the access scaffold & temporary roof & in particular to the appliance bay points of access and egress onto the public highway notwithstanding close liaison with a school that adjoins the station.
The project was delayed because of buried electrical services being found within the roof build up and as a result the services had to be diverted resulting in the upper floor of the station being rewired. To mitigate the delay, we accelerated our works on site to the overall satisfaction of both the client and station.
The main contract works included:
• Replacement of existing roof coverings, including the upgrade of existing insulation with a tapered insulation scheme.
• Replacement of glazed rooflights.
• Removal of failed PV panel system.
• Installation of new guardrails and access steps between roofs.
• Removal & reinstatement of various mechanical & electrical services.
• Renewal of lightning conductor throughout.
• Rewiring of 1st floor lighting circuits, external lighting and additional fire alarm sounders.
• Erection of full scaffold and temporary roof.
