Our Chairman, Jim King has completed his long-awaited ‘Bike to Southampton Challenge’, a two-day event raising money for The Palace for Life Foundation.
We are pleased to share that Jim personally raised £1,385 for the foundation, and his team of 31 riders raised a grand total of £30,000. This is such a huge achievement, and the money will be used to fund life-changing support for young people in South London.
After months of gruelling training, the much-anticipated race day finally came round on Friday 29th April, when Jim set off on his 100.59 mile journey from Selhurst Park towards Southampton. Day one consisted of a mighty 89.8 miles, with an elevation gain of 5,555 feet, which Jim completed in an impressive 7 hours and 11 minutes.
Following a quick overnight stop to replenish his energy levels, Jim completed a further 10.79 miles, with an elevation gain of 467 feet. Upon completing the shorter leg of the race in just 58 minutes, Jim arrived at Southampton Football Club where he successfully crossed the finish line.
Jim celebrated his achievements by attending a match at Southampton Football Club, where he watched his favourite team, Crystal Palace, win 2-1 against Southampton.
