Chilled Water System Replacement at Renowned London Hospital
Following the success of our previous work at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, H&V were recently appointed to work on another crucial project at the renowned London hospital. We have been busy completing the replacement of a chilled water system, providing essential cooling to MRI scanning equipment and the surrounding space.
Our experienced operatives have replaced the existing plant including chillers, pumps, plate heat exchangers, controls and all the pipework distribution. Due to the nature of the specialist MRI equipment which this system serves, the entire pipework system has been installed in 316 grade stainless steel, a non-ferrous metal. Use of this metal prevents both internal and external corrosion and ensures that there will be no implications associated with the high magnetic field used by the MRI scanners.
With the chiller plant located on the roof and the MRI scanner and associated space situated within the lower ground floor, we decided to install the new pipework riser to the external elevation of this historic building. This has prevented the need to work around restrictions within the hospital and eliminated any disruption to the patients and staff.
Working from a fixed scaffold, we have installed the new chilled water flow and return pipework to the 11-storey building. Our knowledgeable team observed that the pipework would not be accessible in the future without the use of a fixed scaffold, and so we decided to fully weld the riser.
