This project consisted of replacement main heating and MCWS, BCWS and HWS domestic plant and pipe services throughout the building. The building is occupied full time with station staff and has ‘camp out’ facilities for members of senior LFB staff passing through, where they may be working away from home. The building has a ‘single person quarter’ whereby a floor is privately rented out as a living space. The Ealing LFB Borough Commander bases himself at Acton Fire Station.
Due to time expired and in-efficient piped services and plant we were appointed to carry out the full strip-out and replacement of the existing services throughout the building. With the work due to be carried out over a 16 week period, the discovery of vast amounts of asbestos containing materials throughout the building meant the project programme was initially extended to incorporate the additional asbestos removal enabling works to take place.
Temporary heating and domestic services had to be available at all times throughout the project. The design, supply and installation of the temporary services was carried out by H&V Building Services. Electrical heating with oil fired generator plant. Independent male and female toilet and shower cabins where provided.
Further delays to the project occurred when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold and national lockdowns were put in place. The project was suspended for 3 months.
Upon easing of national lockdown restrictions, additional COVID-19 health and safety at work procedures had to be developed and put into place between H&V, LFB and Frankham to ensure we could re-commence on site.
The works consisted of:
Heating Works
Domestic Water Services
