Senator House is a multi-storey office building located in the heart of the city of London. H&V Building Services Ltd was appointed to undertake the replacement of the existing air-cooled chillers along with associated works.
The works involved an extensive crane lift to both remove the redundant chillers and locate the new ones. As well as typical road closure requirements, we had to liaise and organise UKPN to attend and remove powered road signage so the Crane can be located.
The existing chiller support locations were not suitable for the new replacement chillers and therefore H&V designed a new structural steel support system for the new units.
The works consisted of:
- Isolation and disconnection both mechanically and electrically of the existing chiller units
- Supply and installation of new chiller units including factory witness testing.
- Design, supply and installation of the new structural steel support frame for the new chiller units
- Full road closure and crane lift to remove the redundant chiller units and associated components from the roof and location of the new chillers and associated components to the roof
- Modification of power supplies and terminations
- Modification of the chilled water flows and return pipework including the installation of Simplex Filter units to 560 microns
- New Thermal Insulation and Trace Heating throughout the roof installation
- New BMS controls and associated works
- Modification and adaption of plant deck platform and walkways
- New roof plant room lighting
- Full testing and commissioning followed by seasonal commissioning
